Turquoise is often stabilized in an effort to protect its natural color and texture as it worn. The rough material is porous and can easily absorb oils, lotions, and other chemicals, becoming discolored over time. The process of stabilizing the turquoise seals pores of the gem so that it will be remain just as it was mined over decades of use. In this instance, we prefer the gem to be treated so that we can easily use it in jewelry without fear of damaging its beauty.
*Care Instructions*
You can clean it with warm soapy water (dish soap like Dawn is perfect) and a soft bristle toothbrush! Most gems should be cleaned this way because ultrasonic cleaners can damage them.

Natural gemstones are mined from the earth and come in a range of qualities. The quality of a gem is based on their color, cut, clarity and carat weight. Treatments are used to enhance earth mined gemstones to improve quality so that they can be used in jewelry.

How do I know a gemstone is natural?
All of our gemstones are handpicked by our GIA accredited gemologist. We are happy to offer a certificate of authenticity for any gemstone purchase from NNJ Designs. We can also send a gemstone to the GIA for certification.
We primarily deal in natural gemstones, but as lab grown gems increase affordability, we offer them on rare occassion. We will always disclose if a gemstone is natural or lab created.
Can one of your designs be cast to fit my center stone?
We can cast any of our designs to perfectly fit the shape and size of your center stone! Please share the dimensions of your gem along with the design that you are interested in and we will work up a quote.
