Heat treatment takes place when gemstones are exposed to high temperatures to permanently enhance their color and clarity. Without heat treatment, fine-quality gemstones would be inaccessible to almost anyone. Colored gemstones have undergone treatment for thousands of years. As long as the treatment is permanent, it is widely accepted that enhancements are important for maintaining the popularity of genuine gemstones.
Care guidelines for heated gems:
No special care is required for heat-treated gems. Wear with (love and) care. Clean with warm soapy water and a soft bristle toothbrush. Chemicals and abrasive cleaners should be avoided on all fine jewelry.

What are treatments?
Natural gemstones are mined from the earth and come in a range of qualities. The quality of a gem is based on their color, cut, clarity and carat weight. Treatments are used to enhance earth mined gemstones to improve quality so that they can be used in jewelry.

How do I know a gemstone is natural?
All of our gemstones are handpicked by our GIA accredited gemologist. We are happy to offer a certificate of authenticity for any gemstone purchase from NNJ Designs. We can also send a gemstone to the GIA for certification.
We primarily deal in natural gemstones, but as lab grown gems increase affordability, we offer them on rare occassion. We will always disclose if a gemstone is natural or lab created.
Can one of your designs be cast to fit my center stone?
We can cast any of our designs to perfectly fit the shape and size of your center stone! Please share the dimensions of your gem along with the design that you are interested in and we will work up a quote.
